RCAD is targeted to take ownership, through a donation by the owner, in March 2021. The iconic landmark was heavily damaged by Hurricane Harvey 3 1/2 years ago. RCAD has championed saving the historic Depot through countless hours of working with the Long Term Recovery Team, governmental entities, local historic societies and private citizens. RCAD’s visionary goal is to restore and utilize the Depot as a main transportation hub for the Cultural Arts and Heritage Districts, as well as provide the opportunity for required parking for the new Arts Complex. The vision includes mobility options such as bicycle rentals, a trolley stop, parking and public bathrooms for downtown and beach front businesses and venues.
