Board Orientation - A Board Orientation is held each year to orient new incoming board members to the Board of Directors. There are five new incoming directors. Agendas, Board Packets, and the below items will be reviewed.
§The board of directors is the group of persons authorized under state law to make governance decisions on behalf of the organization and its shareholders or members. The Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is the governing and policy-making body of the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
§The Board authorizes and implements the program of work; is responsible for its finances, approves the budget, controls its property and directs its affairs. It delegates planning activities and program of work functions through the president/staff to committees/task forces and acts on their recommendations.
§Other duties including but not limited to:
§The Board is responsible for assisting the financing of Chamber operations by referring potential new members, attending events and participating in fund raising efforts.
§Board Directors shall endeavor to enlist talents and energies of other chamber members in division, committee/task force activities.
§Each Director will make every effort to maintain good attendance and be on time. The By-laws identify attendance requirements and Directors must be familiar with those requirements.
§A Director may expect to encounter criticism of the organization and has the obligation to defend it against unfair criticism or to initiate any necessary action to correct the cause of the criticism.
§Each Director, in order to serve the Chamber effectively, must take an active interest in the organization and its activities. This means keeping informed and abreast of activities.
§Occasions may arise when a Director must serve as the Chamber’s official or unofficial spokesperson. As a spokesperson for the Chamber, each Director will reflect the official Chamber position. This responsibility requires the exercise of careful judgment, for a Director’s own personal views may sometimes differ from policies or official positions adopted by the Chamber. In such cases, the Director must use great care not to express personal views as such views might be misinterpreted as representing the views of the Chamber.
§The Board of Directors is responsible for all Chamber activities, proposed projects that involve other than routine expenditures, or questions of over-all Chamber policy. All must be approved by the Board before the project is undertaken.
