Join Us For a Bicycle Safety Event
The Texas Department of State Health Services, in partnership with the Aransas County Rockport Community Aquatic Park, invites the community and children of all ages to a Bike Safety Rodeo. Every child is fitted and receives a complimentary bike helmet (while supplies last).
The Bike Safety Rodeo provides a safe environment for children to practice bicycle safety skills by riding on a course designed to simulate road conditions. The event also include a bicycle safety inspection, including checking the helmet and bicycle fit. Technicians inspect for proper air in the tires, ensure the brakes work properly and check that the chains are on properly. There is a short presentation about bicycle safety and children's knowledge of bicycle riding etiquette. The rodeo includes a bicycle obstacle course for the participants to ride in. The event's education also helps young riders understand the importance of wearing protective gear. *The Centers for Disease Control reports wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of brain injury by as much as 88%*
